Welcome message:

This five-day course has been specifically designed to introduce scanning methodology and the protocols used during pregnancy. A mixture of theoretical and practical tuition with volunteers of varying gestations will be included. The five-day program allows for more practical tuition and consolidation of the foundation skills needed for obstetric scanning. 


Specific topics include

System orientation and probe manipulation techniques

First trimester scanning

Second trimester scanning

Third trimester scanning

Course objectives

To provide an understanding of machine controls including B-Mode, M-Mode & doppler techniques.

To provide an understanding of obstetric ultrasound examinations and the protocols required for all three trimesters.

Transvaginal techniques will be taught using phantoms for early pregnancy and ectopic pregancy

To provide skills in obtaining the fetal biometry at various gestations.

To provide an understanding of the amniotic fluid index (AFI) and cord doppler.
