Event Overview
Welcome message:

In the transition to high value practice, imaging exams have been identified as contributors to unnecessary practice and patient health care debt.  Improving imaging appropriateness requires collaboration across specialties, educational campaigns, radiology consultation srvices and clinical decision support in the electronic medical record. At the core of these initiatives are the ACR Appropriateness Criteria (AC), evidence-based guidelines that indicate the relative utility of various imaging tests for more than 1,000 clinical indications.

To increase providers' knowledge about imaging appropriateness guidelines, subspecialty trained faculty leaders in the Johns Hopkins Department of Radiology will deliver a targeted educational program. The content of this program was driven by a survey of ordering providers, designed to identify clinical scenarios for which they needed imaging selection guidance. Survey responses identified 14 common clinical indications where providers reported knowledge deficiencies, which were integrated into this half day CME program.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This activity is intended for physician and non-physician medical providers who order imaging exams in all specialties, including faculty, house staff, medical students, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. House staff and students attend for free.

Objectives

After attending this activity, the participant will be able to:

Appropriate exam selection for a range of common clinical indications

Screen recommendations to improve early detection

Determine resources available to guide imaging appropriateness.
