Dear Friends and Colleagues,


On behalf of the organising committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural Paediatric Colorectal and Urology Congress to celebrate the opening of the Nelson Mandela Children’s hospital in collaboration with the Department of Paediatric Surgery, University of the Witwatersrand, and “Surgeons for Little Lives.”


We are privileged to have faculty that are worldwide leaders in their fields. The format of the congress will be in the form of surgical demonstrations, panel discussions, specialised lectures and free papers. In addition, we will be hosting a 3-day interactive symposium on paediatric stoma care, wound and bowel management, aimed at nursing staff and allied professions. A pre-course 2-day laparoscopic urological course to open the new skills lab will also be offered.


We hope to entice paediatric, general and urological surgeons of all levels to attend. Our medical colleagues, especially paediatric gastroenterologists and nephrologists, will also find this congress immensely worthwhile. Nursing staff of all levels will benefit greatly from the symposium, which will be facilitated by leaders in this specific field.


This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the opening of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, which will be a leader in specialised paediatric care in Africa and beyond. I hope you will join us to realise Madiba’s dream.
