Event Overview
Welcome message:

Dear Colleagues and Friends:

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 2014 Pediatric Sedation Outside of the Operating Room weekend conference, Friday symposium entitled The Fundamentals of Sedation: Reviewing the Basics, Bridging the Specialties, Friday High Fidelity Pediatric Sedation Simulation Workshops, and Saturday High Fidelity Dental Sedation Simulation Workshops. This year we are again presenting a unique, enriching, and exciting conference.

As always, we have a diverse group of internationally and nationally recognized speakers from a variety of disciplines. We will have attendees from multidisciplines (emergency medicine, dental medicine, hospital medicine, intensive care medicine, pediatrics, anesthesiology, nursing, oncology, cardiology, radiology, hospital administration) worldwide- Italy, Netherlands, Greece, Israel, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, South Africa, and Singapore. The specialized tracks, round table luncheons, and open forums enable us to share our experiences, ideas, and challenges.

The full day of high fidelity sedation simulation continues with overwhelming enrollment and feedback. In addition, we have a half day of high fidelity dental sedation simulation workshops.

On behalf of the entire faculty, myself, and the Course Coordinator, I would like to invite you to attend “Pediatric Sedation Outside of the Operating Room.” We are certain that you will find the course and workshops both educational and enjoyable.

Sincerely,

Keira P. Mason, MD

Speakers/Faculty:

Majka Burhardt, BA, MFA
Keynote Address: Leadership and Triumph in Uncharted Territory

As an author, professional climber, filmmaker, and entrepreneur, Majka has spent two decades exploring the globe—usually by hand and foot—and her stories of challenge, humanity, and the fine line between extreme and acceptable risk continue to inspire audiences around the world.   She is the author of books Coffee Story: Ethiopia and Vertical Ethiopia, and Executive Producer of the 2010 film, "Waypoint Namibia" and the forthcoming "Lost Mountain” The Lost Mountain Project, is a pioneering biological study of the cliffside habitat on Mt. Namuli, Mozambique’s second highest mountain and a critical target for conservation in southeast Africa.

How do teams achieve impossible goals? How do stakeholders coalesce into powerful teams? Majka shares the vital commitments of cohesion that create innovative and successful teams. A champion of “Additive Adventure,” when adventure goes beyond exploration to cultural and environmental connections that create a larger conversation of singular and collective human meaning, Majka will share astonishing stories and footage of successfully leading teams through poisonous-snake-infested grasslands, up crumbling sandstone spires, into charged tribal politics, and toward collaboration.
