The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology has reviewed the Current Psychiatry/AACP 2018 Psychiatry Update Presentation and has approved this program as part of a comprehensive CME program, which is mandated by the ABMS as a necessary component of maintenance of certification (MOC). The activity awards 19 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ and 8 Self-Assessment Category 1 CME credits.


This activity is designed for general and geriatric psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, psychologists, social workers and other mental health professionals interested in treating patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Women’s Mental Health, Depression, Psychopharmacology, Schizophrenia, Geriatric Psychiatry, Medicolegal Issues, Sexual Dysfunction, Chronic Pain, Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Bipolar Disorder.


At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Compare current pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment strategies for management of a range of disorders, including Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders,  Women’s Mental Health, Depression, Schizophrenia, Geriatric Psychiatry, Sexual Dysfunction, Chronic Pain, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).

Explain how the goals of law differ from the goals of medicine.

Clarify the difference between jails and prisons in regard to the role of the psychiatrist.

Discuss the role of risk management in practice.

Revise clinical assumptions based on biology, to include intuitive understanding of patients’ sexual aspirations.

Be able to recite several advances in schizophrenia including: genetic and nongenetic etiologies, abnormalities in the mitochondria and microglia activation leading to oxidative stress and inflammation, and emerging treatment and prevention strategies.

Describe risk genes, CNV and mutations as well as perinatal complications as etiological factors, the pathophysiology of psychotic episodes, the possible role of the microbiome , the relationship to frontotemporal dementia, BBB hyperpermeability, the encephalitis hypothesis, immune dysregulation and non-dopaminergic approaches to treating schizophrenia.



This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Cincinnati and Global Academy for Medical Education, Inc. The University of Cincinnati is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The CP/AACP Psychiatry Update Encore Presentation is accepting a limited number of industry-sponsored abstract submissions for poster sessions.


The fee for industry-sponsored submissions is $695 per abstract. Submissions must be accompanied by payment for consideration. A full refund will be provided for any submission that is not accepted. 

Deadline for submissions is Friday, October 5. However, we recommend you submit your abstract as soon as possible, as we have limited spaces available.


Please note: You will have to completely download the form in order to fill in the fields. If you find it easier, you can use the form to submit the contact and payment information and submit your abstract(s) as a Word document. Please be sure to include the title of your abstract on BOTH documents.

Additional Information

The Conference Organizer will provide a 4’ (high) x 8’ (wide) bulletin board. Please leave 2” for safety on either side. Posters must NOT exceed 3’10” (high) x 7’10” (wide). Pushpins will be provided on site.

Poster presenters are responsible for setting up and removing their own posters. Any posters left behind will be discarded.
