The overall objective of this 2 day course is to instruct trainee and qualified primary care clinicians in the skills needed to perform minor skin surgery. The course aims to cover all the minor skin procedures, joint injections and non-surgical techniques as set out in the GMS contract for primary care minor surgery. Furthermore, course delegates will be assessed via Applied Knowledge testing and Direct Observation of Practical Skills (DOPS) during the course.
At the end of the course, delegates should be able to take home improved practical skills and be aware of medico-legal and contractual obligations required of those practising minor skin surgery. Furthermore, having attended the course, delegates should be able to apply evidence based practice in the detection and management of common skin lesions including melanoma. Most importantly they should be able to apply these skills to improve the provision of minor skin surgery in primary care.
