Shoulder and Knee Surgery
Shoulder and knee surgery has always been present in the long history of orthopedics, but in the last 30-40 years there has been a rapid evolution of non-invasive surgery . Therefore, arthroscopic surgery, mini-open surgery, joint reconstructive surgery using methods that have been selected and after many years have shown excellent validity to begin with the assessment of the extent of the surgical damage.
In particular, talking about the shoulder all the pathology of the supracromial space has been eviscerated in the last thirty years. First the scapulohumeral joint pathologies were minimized and in any case considered not susceptible to surgical treatment.
With the advent of arthroscopy, the risks of failure were significantly reduced and at the same time the return to normal life of work and the life of the relationship was considerably reduced.
As regards knee surgery, the same applies above with very important evaluations related to patient autonomy . The operated patient manages to reach his autonomy almost immediately after the intervention, in fact there are practically no longer immobilization times with excessively heavy and difficult to wear gypsum or braces. People operated on their knees quickly face a return to their everyday life.
In addition, especially in young athletes who practice competitive activity, there has been above all a noticeable increase in surgical successes. There is talk, in some cases of intervention, of a return to pre-operative sporting activity of 100% and above all of a type of both intra-operative and post-operative rehabilitative treatment that also helps psychologically the subject.
In this distance learning project the Expert, Prof. Ferdinando Priano, specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology, will present some videos of the main surgical interventions at the shoulder and knee level, with a comment on the salient steps.
