Singapore Health Biomedical Congress
Welcome to Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress 2014!
2014 marks the 12th year that this scientific meeting has been organized by the National Healthcare Group (NHG). The Congress was inaugurated in 2002 as the National Healthcare Group’s Annual Scientific Congress. It was then rebranded as the Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress in 2010. Over the years, the Congress has grown from strength to strength. Today it is the largest and most important healthcare and scientific meeting in Singapore, attracting more than 3,000 delegates from Singapore, Asia Pacific, Australia and Europe.
The theme for this year’s Congress is “Redefining Healthcare for the Future – Educating, Innovating & Leading for Progress”. The Congress aims to discuss how healthcare in Singapore should redefine itself to meet the changing needs of our population. Singapore’s rapidly greying population, rising obesity, and increasing healthcare costs are all very real challenges today, but they can be tempered by advances in technology, innovation and sharing of best practices.
SHBC’s robust and exciting two-day scientific programme includes a Keynote and two Plenary Sessions and 12 specialty-related tracks. An exciting new programme is the Population Health Symposium. As the Regional Health System (RHS) for the Central region of Singapore, NHG has been innovating towards how Population Health could be delivered across the healthcare continuum for the central region population. This inaugural Population Health Symposium will allow us to share with our care partners some of the population health ideas and programmes we and our partners have come across or have tried out.
We are also proud to host the NHG – TTSH Student Festival 2014 where students from various health profession groups gather to collaborate and participate in the exciting programme. The students will experience fun and educational activities that encourage inter-professional learning and teamwork at the Student Festival.
SHBC 2014’s comprehensive programme highlights also include a spectrum of topical symposiums with contemporary contents such as
Intermediate and Long -Term Care (ILTC),
Biomedical Research Symposium,
Complementary Integrative Medicine,
Dermatology,
Developmental Disability Symposium
Education@NHG,
Gastroenterology,
Infectious Diseases & Epidemiology Forum 2014,
Nursing,
Surgical Education Summit,
The Primary Care Forum 2014 and
4th TTSH-JHS Joint Oncology Symposium.
SHBC 2013 broke all previous attendance records, and we hope that this year will be another highly successful milestone Congress. We have made several changes to make room for more delegates. We believe you will find our diverse SHBC programme and related workshops beneficial.
Serving as the highlight of SHBC 2014, the prestigious annual Scientific Competition is an open competition for local and international medical and scientific professionals and designed to recognize outstanding research achievements by healthcare professionals.
For the first time, SHBC 2014 will be “going green” which reduces our carbon footprint – by introducing our SHBC mobile application as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility. We are excited to offer this opportunity for you to download and browse the programme through the SHBC mobile application. With this application you can take notes with ease and be able to interact with each other seamlessly.
I look forward to meeting you personally to further our shared twin goals of excellence and lifelong learning at the Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress 2014. The opportunity to learn, innovate and progress towards excellence in our healthcare community is infinite.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, who has worked tirelessly to bring you Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress 2014, I warmly welcome all our participants and look forward to an exciting and fruitful meeting ahead!
See you at SHBC 2014 this September!

Singapore has been described as a thriving cosmopolitan city that’s brimming with diversity, with a fascinating mix of culture, language, arts and architecture. She is a dynamic city that inspires; constantly innovating to offer fresh experiences. It is her own blend of offerings that sets her apart from other destinations.
However, we live in an ever-changing environment, with the digital age enabling travellers to actively shape and define their own travel stories.
Thus Singapore enables travellers to design their own journeys – stories they can call their very own. Undoubtedly, each account will be different, but that is what makes them intriguing and enduring. A multitude of stories told through the eyes of people from all over the world and the local residents themselves. Some intimate, others adventurous. Each story is unique to call one’s own.
So take your time to explore and discover what awaits you here. While the Singapore experience is constantly evolving, you can decide how and what you want your Singapore holiday to be.
