Symposium of the International Atherosclerosis Society
Dear colleagues!
This is a great honour for me to invite you for active participation at the Symposium of the International Atherosclerosis Society “Anitschkow Days” to be held in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation on June 2–4, 2016.
The choice of St. Petersburg as the hosting city reflects the significant impact provided by Russian scientists to the development of atherosclerosis research in the 20th century. Nikolay Anitschkow was the one who discovered the lipid nature of atherosclerosis and Anatoly Klimov was the first to investigate an autoimmune theory.
This symposium will create a new opportunity to develop cooperation between the International Atherosclerosis Society and the Russian Society of Cardiology. We are facing mutual global cardiovascular challenges and have to work out new effective solutions. The voices of our societies are of exceptional importance in this respect.
An exchange of ideas and practical collaboration in cardiology, as well in healthcare management and social activities seem to be a good basis for future achievements. We have achieved a high level of mutual understanding which I hope will lead to further progress in decrease of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
Moreover, new perspectives now opening in applying molecular insights from a laboratory into a clinical setting are obviously giving a new impact to cooperation both in basic and clinical research embracing translational medicine as a 21st century way to optimize patient care and preventive measures.
Welcome to St. Petersburg, a beautiful city with a worldwide fame for its architectural ensembles, parks, museums and the white nights!
With best regards
