Welcome message:

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to extend a warm welcome to join us for the USANZ New Zealand Section Meeting 2014 being held at The Rippon Hall in Wanaka from Wednesday 5 November to Friday 7 November 2014.

We are delighted to have as our international key note speaker Dr Mark Moyad, USA join us to present at the Meeting this year.  The scientific programme is currently being developed and more information will be posted on the website in due course.

We look forward to seeing you in Wanaka in November.

Dr Mark Moyad, USA

Dr. Moyad received his master’s degree in public health from the University of South Florida where he was one of the lead investigators of the L-tryptophan dietary supplement study that helped to remove this dangerous supplement from the market.

He published his first medical article in college on the relationship between a compound found in cottonseed oil and male infertility. He received his M.D. from Wayne State University school of

Medicine. He is currently working part-time on his Ph.D. in pathology and N.D. (Naturopathic doctor) degree. He is the author or co-author of 4 books and has 3 additional books coming out in the next 12 months including a guide for Men’s and Women’s Health and a Breast Cancer Prevention Book. He is the primary author of over 60 medical articles. He is the editor of the complementary/ preventive medicine medical book series from Humana press.

Dr. Moyad has also been the guest editor of 5 different medical journals. He reviews or edits articles for a number of medical journals including: Urology, Journal of Urology, Cancer, Nutrition and Cancer, British Journal of Urology… He is the director of the Complementary/Preventive medicine course for the Annual American Urologic Association Meeting and the Annual Urologic Nurses Meeting. Dr. Moyad has an endowed chair/directorship at the University of Michigan Medical Centre in Complementary and

Preventive Medicine. He has had a consulting practice for almost 10 years and he runs clinical trials and basic science studies in regards to complementary/preventive at the University. He has lectured in all 50 states to health professionals and patients and he speaks internationally and gives courses in Europe and Asia on a regular basis.

His latest research includes identifying the relationship between lipid changes and cancer risk and treatment. He will also be the co-director of the new Men’s Health program at the University of Michigan in 2004.

Mountain bike and Kayak hire

The bikes, new in August 2013, are ‘Avanti 29ers’ in both men and women’s frames.  As part of the rental we offer helmet, pump, lock and saddle bag with basic repair kit.

Please find below submission details for your presentation at the Trainee session. The programme timing for the session is yet to be
fully confirmed and you will be notified of this shortly.

Presentations will be oral presentations – 4 minutes for presentation, 2 minutes for discussion and 7 PowerPoint slides. PowerPoint
is the preferred medium for presentations. Other presentation facilities will be available by arrangement.

The closing date for abstract submission is Sunday 31 August 2014

No more than two submissions as a first author will be accepted. If sending two submissions, please send each abstract under a
separate email.

Abstracts must be written in MS Word (.doc) and the body of the abstract no more than 250 words. PDF files and faxed copies will
not be accepted.

Please use the abstract template provided to ensure the abstract contains the following:

1. Title of Abstract

2. Authors/Presenters
Upper and Lower case
Show initials and then last name only
Title, degrees and awards should not be included
The name of the presenter should be underlined

3. Institution, city, country* of all authors/presenters
Upper and lower case and italics
*Authors from outside NZ are requested to include country

4. Body of Abstract

 Tables and figures are permitted
 Should include the following headings, in bold:
- Background: The study’s objectives (unless given in the title)
- Method: A brief statement of the methods used, if pertinent
