Event Overview
Welcome message:
The topic is a challenging and moving target - the population of immunocompromised patients (IC) is growing and viral infections are among the most common infection complications in those patients. Viral infections are associated with morbidity and mortality not only in transplant recipients but in all IC patients. The management of viral infections is complex and a multidisciplinary approach is needed regarding epidemiology, prevention, treatment. This course would like to follow up the ESCMID course in Lausanne 2015 which addressed the similar topic predominantly on transplant patients. This course will try to cover all potential groups of IC patients and relevant viral infections including those after biological therapies. The top experts in the field will serve as speakers and we expect very practical oriented lessons with the updated and recent data from the research. Interesting and interactive case presentations are planned. A joint organisation between the ESGICH and ESGVH will allow multidisciplinary attitude and fruitful discussions. We would also like to attract more physicians from the Central and Eastern part of Europe to attend our ESCMID PGEC because we think that there is a room for improvement in this field. Course Objectives: - epidemiology of viral infections in IC patients - viral hepatitis in IC patients with focus on preventive a treatment strategies - viral infections in transplant recipients (SOT and HSCT) - viral infections in hematological patients and in pateints receiving biologicals - emerging viral infections in IC patients - vaccination in IC patients - new diagnostics, monitoring strategies and treatment of viral infections in IC patients
