Event Overview
Welcome message:

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the World Association of Social Psychiatry (WASP) Jubilee congress 13-15th November 2014 in London, England. As many of you know, the WASP was launched 50 years ago and the Jubilee celebration is the perfect opportunity to share with you the achievements of the association over the years and prepare for the future in the context of an academically stimulating and socially rewarding scientific meeting. In an echo of the past and looking to the future, this congress is co-hosted by the Faculty of Rehabilitation and Social Psychiatry of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The theme of the congress is Social Psychiatry: past, present and future with an emphasis on the presentation of new research findings, clinical innovations and stimulating discussions of the opportunities for future international collaboration and achievement in our field.

Tom K J Craig
President WASP

Sridevi Kalidindi
Chair, Faculty of Rehabilitation and Social Psychiatry, Royal College of Psychiatrists

The scientific program which we have prepared is second to none, with keynote contributions from world leaders on the social determinants of health and treatment response, further elaborated in linked symposia and oral presentations in which we look forward to your lively participation and enthusiastic contributions. We are inviting proposals for workshops, symposia, oral presentations and posters on matters central to social psychiatry across the life-span including new findings in the biopsychosocial aetiology of mental disorders, psychological and social interventions, combating stigma and discrimination and the use of new technologies in the delivery of care and support.

London, of course, is one of the world’s most fascinating cities with great history, world-class theatre and for those of you who have not visited recently, yes even internationally renowned cuisine. We have chosen a venue that is easy to reach from all the major UK airports and train terminals, with comfortable accommodation and excellent conferencing facilities.

In conclusion we look forward to seeing you in London and to a stimulating three days dedicated to a discipline which is proving to be more important day by day.

Welcome to the WASP Jubilee, welcome to London.

Save the date.
